In the post-hippie aftermath of the 60s, TV producers and film-makers began trying to document the period on-screen, albeit with mixed results. This early 70s gem, however, delivers an unforgettable depiction of the widening generation gap when a suburban daughter (played by Sally Field) returns home to her uptight, dysfunctional family after a year spent wandering, protesting and living the hippie lifestyle with her long-haired boyfriend (David Carradine). A surprisingly raw and revealing take on this transitional period in America’s history and the personal conflicts and social tensions it brought about.
